About

Hi! My name is Kianna. I am a BIPOC queer woman from Northern California living abroad in Malaga, Spain. I am currently working as a Language Assistant (Auxiliar de Conversacion) at a primary school here in Malaga.

I am half Japanese and half Portuguese-American and grew up between these two cultures. Growing up, I spent the academic year in Northern California attending a Spanish immersion school and summers visiting family and going to school in central Japan. Because of this exposure to different cultures from a young age, I have always enjoyed learning about and meeting people from other countries. I think this is what ultimately sparked my love for travel.

My first taste of living abroad on my own was when I studied abroad in Santiago, Chile during my third year of university. It was an incredible experience that allowed me to challenge myself, improve my Spanish drastically, travel almost half of South America, and create life-long international friendships. This experience made me want to live abroad again which led me to Spain’s North American Language and Culture Assistant Program.

My main goal with this blog is to show you have easy it can be to live and/or travel abroad. If you have never done it before, I know it can seem daunting, but with a little preparation and with the tools I provide on this blog, you will be all set! Another goal of mine with this blog is to be a queer BIPOC voice in the travel community. I do not see enough travel posts (itineraries, experiences, etc.) written by queer BIPOC individuals so I hope to help fill that void.

I love to eat, travel and discover the queer nooks in every place I visit and I am looking forward to keep sharing these loves with all of you 🙂 <3
